One of the most Senior Producers and Directors Of Bollywood, Arjun Hingorani Has Become The Living Legend of Indian Film Industry, He Has The Distinction of Introducing Dhamendra, the Most Popular And Successful Filmstars Of All Times. The Maker Of many blockbusters, has stunned the public and the press by writing the book under the title of "How To Be Happy and Realise Your Dreams". The book has been appreciated by the top dignitaries of the country.
Born at Jacobabad, in Sindh, Arjun Hingorani is a law-graduate. But unfortunately his hearing capacity got impaired and he could not persue with his law-practice. He had only one ambition to become rich. According to him it was only possible in film industry. First of all he decided to become filmstar, when he found his image in mirror saying something of a kind. In 1947 immediately after the partition, he was in Mumbai trying his dreams. From the very beginning he believed in God, and he knew that the man can mould his own destiny by dedication to work and devotion to his own destination. He was determind to find his proper place in show business. The young man who wanted to become a Freedom fighter, during his studies, now wanted to show his talent on screen, after the Independence of the country. He is the man who has seen many ups and downs in his life, till today. But he had been a favourite Child of God, due to his faith in Him. God has always stood by him, and went on removing all the hurdles and roadblocks during his Journey towards progress and prosperity.
Due to his good luck, when he could not get any break as an actor, he met Ashok Kumar, just by chance. He adviced him that he should try his luck, to become a film director, instead of struggling for stardom. With his help he was joined the Direction Department of Bombay Talkies, of which he was Boss. He started as an apprentice. During the making of Mahal, Majboor and Ziddi, he got the chance of working under the top directors of these films, Kamal Amrohi, Nazir Ajmeri and Shahid Latif, respectively.
Then he approached the top most movie maker of that time D.D.Kashyap and request him to become his assistant. He said,"I have already 6 assistants, Do you want me to add a crowd on my set?".
On this Arjun Hingorani said, "I am your fan. According to me you are the Best film Director. I am ambitious to learn under you. I will fetch water or tea for you, on the sets. I will do anything for you, For God’s sake.." There and then he was appointed, as one of his assistants. His dedication and devotion worked.
To float his own Film Company with the help of Balraj Sahni & Rajinder Singh Bedi, he resigned D.D.Kashyap’s job. But the venture proved to be a dismal failure. He became proverbial ‘Na Ghar Ka Na Ghat Ka’.
His late father had promised him for higher education in London. But due to his untimely death, nothing could be done. Still God helped him and he went to London in April 1954 with the help of his family friend Mr. J. Samtani, who had settled in U.K. After some struggle and strains, he got a hotel job. He had to wash dishes and clean the rooms of a 5-star hotel @ 6 Pounds a week. Being enthusiastic and intelligent after some time he was staying in the same Hotel @ 60 Pound per day, on rental basis. He used to go to Balling Studios, where he started to work, as partime apprentice. This was the place where he learnt all the tricks of the trade of direction. Now he was eager to go back to Mumbai.
Being a selfless, helpless and egoless man, Arjun Hingorani, had always been looked after by the Lady Luck, when and where he wanted her assistance. With the help of his sister Ms. Drupadi, who was M.A. in Economics and got USA Scholorship, brought him to the City of Dreams, once again.
Exhibitor of Shikarpur Mr. T.M. Bihar, who has migrated to Mumbai, after the partition, wanted to make a film in Sindhi. He signed Sindhi Scholar Shri Ram Panjwani to write the dialogue for his film Abana. With his recommendation Arjun Hingorani got the assignment of directing this film, with Sadhana, as the leading lady. He directed this film in association with Director Deepak Asha, and the film proved Super hit at the box-office. Still he could not get the chance to direct any Hindi film Immediately. The producer of Abana was not ready to take the big risk of making a Hindi film, which required big money. After three years of, under the persuation T.M. Bihari relented and agreed to make a Hindi film. Arjun Hingorani was his first and last choice. He introduced Dharmendra to him for the leading role. He agreed.’Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere,’ was made. A new dashing Hero was born. He-man Dharmendra.
Under his own banner of Kalpeshwar Pictures he made popular films like Kab Kyon Aur Kahan, Kahani Kismat Ki, Katilon Ke Katil, Sultanat, Karishma Kudrat Ka, Khel Khiladi Ka and latest being Kaise Kahoon..Ke Pyaar Hai.
Now, when he has already been retired from the film making, he is not tired with the life. He is still strong, vigorous and energetic physically and mentally both. His new venture in the form of a Book is the example of his intelligence, intellectualness and imagination. He has written this book not himself, God has guided him to do so. He believes in God and he is sure nothing can be done without the wishes and the will of the God. He is spiritual minded man, is still ready to accept acting assignment suitable to his age.
